Romantic Wedding Touches

As a wedding planner, Bernadette Chapman has experienced a vast array of strange and wonderful wedding themes, but one of the factors common to all the most appealing weddings is a healthy dose of good old-fashioned romance. Hearts, cherubs and red roses are the obvious choices for those who want an all-out romantic theme, but if you’re looking for additional inspiration, here are some of Bernadette’s ideas for tugging at your guests’ heartstrings:

1. Personalise your ceremony by writing your own vows or asking a friend to read a meaningful poem or passage at the service. This can often make for some of the most touching moments of your wedding day.
Ask guests to write a message of love, advice or inspiration and post it through a sealed decorated box

2. If you are marrying in church, ask whether you can perform the unity-candle rite. This American tradition is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Prior to the ceremony, a single large ‘unity’ candle and two slimmer tapers are placed in holders and arranged near the wedding altar. After the exchange of vows and rings, two trusted guests – one representing each side of the family (usually the bride’s mother and the groom’s mother) – come forward and light the two individual tapers. The bride and groom take each take one of these lit tapers and use them to light the single large unity candle to symbolise their new life together.

3. Ask your married guests to bring a photo of themselves from their own wedding day, and pin all the photos on a special board at the reception. This will cause people to recall their own romantic times and make them feel involved in the celebration.

4. If space is tight on your tables, use your favours as a romantic-looking centrepiece. Small pots of roses each tied with a ribbon and a personalised tag look gorgeous when clustered on a mirror centrepiece or surrounding a candelabra.

5. Ask guests to write a message of love, advice or inspiration and post it through a sealed decorated box. The box can be kept safe by a trusted friend to be handed back to you on your first anniversary, when you can read all the special messages while enjoying a glass of champagne.

6. Book a calligrapher to write out some well-known romantic poems, then frame these and put them in the middle of your tables, surrounded by tea lights, ivy and roses.

7. If your wedding venue will allow it, scatter pink rose petals on the bridal path. In primitive times, this was done to protect newlyweds from evil spirits. If your reception is in a marquee, scatter rosebuds or lavender seeds to produce a sweet scent noticeable to guests the minute they walk in.

8. Venue permitting, ask for a small room to be set aside for you and your partner – perhaps with champagne and chocolates on standby – and arrange a time to meet your other half there alone. This gives you some precious moments to savour your wedding day together without being interrupted by Aunty Mavis. hhihihihihi :)

How to Make Personalized Wedding Invitations

Wedding days can be a bit stressful and making your own invitation could really add to your burden. Here are simple and hassle free suggestions that could help you personalize them affordably and hassle free.

Have you experienced spending too much for a wedding invitation but no matter how much you explain and draw your concepts it never comes out in print! You wasted all that money for an invitation that just doesn’t speak your style and doesn’t even come close to your own expectations. So why not make it yourself? It’s fast, easy and you are sure that it will come out the way you like it.

Making your own wedding invitation can be affordable and exciting! The availability of computers and inkjet printers makes doing graphics and other details for your wedding invitations attainable and easy, there are even online websites that can provide essential tips and even sample layout that could help in making invitations. All it takes to make a great personalized wedding invitation is your creativity and commitment in making it.

The first thing you have to do is decide on what will be the concept of your wedding. It’s important to find a similar color of stationeries to match your ideal wedding day decorations. If your planning for a more conventional wedding, its best to get plain white stationeries or ecru. For a more vibrant and modern wedding style its best to have stationeries with colors similar to your motif.

After having the ideas in mind, its about time to compute and to arrange who will be in your bridal trail, the best man, brides maid, maid of honor, sponsors, ring bearer and etc, you can get ideas on this kinds of things in magazines and even online wedding sites. In addition buying the materials needed and knowing how many will you make is also a must in this activity, remember you are in a limited time frame.

Secondly, after gathering materials and knowing information regarding the bridal march, motif and etc. Its best if you try plotting the invitation, don’t forget the essential information in the front page like; the title (i.e., Smith and Knickerham Nuptial), Date, Time and at the lower most area of the invitation the name of the person invited. The contents of the insides of the invitations are; 1) The Contents of the Bridal Entourage, 2) the bride and groom’s parents 3) The lists of Sponsors/ Godparents, 4) the flower girls and ring bearer. Of course you should follow these suggestions/ lists faithfully this list may differ if you’re in a different religious belief.

Thirdly, it’s important that your invitation embodies the character and traits of the couple, like if you and your fiancé are in to biking then your invitation could be the two of you biking together, or the invitation is shaped like a bicycle or a helmet or there are splatters of paint or a painting for artists. You just have to know your similarities and hobbies and blend it in a concept for your invitation.

Lastly, it would be best to get some help, like your best friend, sister or even your fiancé in making the invitations. This will help it be more of a relaxing activity than a hazardous task to do before your big day.

Self made invitations, no matter what kind of occasion it may be, offer you the opportunity to be creative and to express your ideas. Weddings are such a personal event and it would be best if the invitation speaks of true feelings and reflects the personality of the couple.

Making your wedding invitation unique will be enough for your guests to keep it as a keepsake/ remembrance of your big day! And it would even leave a lasting impression for the guests. All it takes is a little love, a hint of imagination and a cup full of devotion and patience.

Tips on Choosing a Diamond Wedding Ring

Do You Hear Wedding Bells?

So you've been in that perfect relationship for some time now. You've been dropping hints about the future and he is receiving you loud and clear. It's time to do a little "window shopping." After all, you don't want to leave one of the most important decisions in your life entirely up to him, do you? He WILL lose sleep over finding that perfect engagement ring, even though he will not admit it. So why not help him out a little, give him some guidance and direction.

There are so many choices when it comes to shopping for engagement rings and you and he will hear a lot of advice from a lot of "helpful" people. His "Uncle Charlie" will know a guy who knows a guy. Your sister will tell you that you have to get your ring where she got hers. Your co-worker will tell you about this really cool website. And on and on, there will be advice around every corner.

Let's go through some of the available options and identify the pros and cons of each. This should help you both figure out what the best option is for you.

Your Local Jewelry Store:
Definitely a great place to start. A jewelry store will have a small selection of pre-set engagement rings for you to see in person, and try on. If you run into a helpful sales associate that is willing to spend some time with you and explain all of the nuances of buying diamonds, it will be well worth your time.

PROS
Seeing the diamond in person. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing diamonds sparkle on your finger!

Talking to a knowledgeable human being and getting answers to questions face to face.

CONS
Limited selection. Most local jewelry stores do not have the financial resources to carry a large inventory of diamonds. However, many stores do work with suppliers who are able to send them goods on memorandum (like consignment) if they have a customer who is looking for a particular diamond.

Price. You will pay more at a jeweler, period. Sure you can try and negotiate and feel like you got a better price, but a jeweler will not sell you that diamond for less than a substantial profit. Most jewelers need to make a "keystone" markup on every item, which is double what they paid for that diamond. This markup covers the high overhead costs of running a store including insurance, rent and sales commissions.

Antique Shops:
If you are looking for a ring that is truly unique, this is the place for you. You'll need to do some leg work and visit many different stores to see what's available, but it could be worth it in the long run.

PROS
Most likely to find a one of a kind ring. If you have the need to be an original, stick to your search and you will find that proverbial "diamond in the rough."

CONS
Unless you get lucky, expect a long search. You may only find a handful, if any rings in the shops you visit.

Most rings will not have any type of certification or appraisal. Unless you know a great deal about diamond grading, it is possible to get taken advantage of very easily.
The Internet
The Holy Grail and the Bottomless Pit of information, all wrapped in one. By far, you will find the largest selection of diamonds and engagement rings here, but that can be quite overwhelming. Start with the basics and work your way through this checklist.

1. Shape - Diamonds are cut into 10 most common shapes, but there are countless other "designer" shapes popping up in the industry on a regular basis. Most of the shapes are self explanatory (round, oval, pear, heart), but do you know what a Marquise or a Radiant looks like? Take a look at the most commonly available diamond shapes and decide what you like best.

2. Size - Bigger is better, right? Not necessarily. Unless your fiancé has very deep pockets, you will not be getting a 5 carat boulder to weigh you down. Too many men are convinced that it has to be big. Would you like to have a big ugly rock that is dull and lifeless on your hand, just so you could tell everyone it's 3 carats, or would you rather have a beautiful, sparkling beacon of light catching all of your friends attention. You won't have to wave your hand in front of them to notice, they will come to you!

3. The 4 C's - The most common phrase in the diamond business and the most important when shopping for a diamond online. The 4 C's represent a diamond's cut, color, clarity and carat weight. CUT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF A DIAMOND'S FIRE AND BRILLIANCE. So many people buying diamonds focus on color and clarity, that cut is often overlooked. You can spend a fortune buying a flawless clarity and perfect color (white) diamond, yet if it is poorly cut, it will be dull and lifeless.

4. The Mounting Metal - This is basically a matter of personal preference and what looks best on you. Yellow gold is classic and works best for a solitaire engagement ring. Yellow gold is also better for mounting diamonds with a lower color grade (yellowish tint), because the yellow from the diamond blends into the setting. White gold and Platinum give a modern look and work best with three stone rings. Be sure to choose a diamond with a high color grade, otherwise the white mounting will negatively emphasize a yellowish diamond.

5. The Online Engagement Ring Builder - The most fun part of buying a diamond online is being able to build your own ring. Choose a diamond and a setting, then email it to your fiancé. Even if he doesn't buy it online, he will know exactly what style to look for when he goes shopping. No surprises, and everyone is happy!

Money Saving Tips for Wedding Flowers

a) Find out if another wedding will be held at your church or synagogue that day or the day before your wedding. If so, you can contact that bride and find out if she would like to share the cost of the flowers with you.

b) After the ceremony, arrange to have the flowers taken to the reception location.

c) Instead of a full bouquet of flowers for you and your bridesmaids, carry one or two dramatic flowers instead. They look just as elegant and the cost will be significantly less than full bouquets.

d) Try to use flowers that are in season.
